// BIO
My name is Kristian Sverdrup, I graduated as a sculptor from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, and since then I’ve been working as a visual artist in Denmark. I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at an early age, and for most of my life, I’ve worked in the intersection between science, art and body. So far my work has spanned video art, graphical art, sculptures and paintings.
In the past few years I’ve had residencies in both Italy, Greece and Ukraine, and it is with a wish to furtherly explore intercultural sections, possibilities and challenges, that I apply for a slot in your residency program.
// PROJECT
We live in a very individual-oriented time. Even though our capacity to embrace our individuality is an important one, we must also remember, that we are all part of something much bigger than ourselves. In these years of war, post-pandemic paranoia and economic uncertainty, it is more crucial than ever that we find comfort and strength in our communities. Earlier in my career I led several workshops in Palestine, and I know both how productive and inspiring they can be for the people involved. Each week at Narva I want to do at least one workshop, where both locals and other artists will have the opportunity to brainstorm and ultimately decide what kind of works that will take form in my studio. Both materials, medium, concept and everything else regarding the works will rely on what the visiting people come up with together. I’m even considering inviting the people to do the actual work alongside me. My hope is that the works will both reflect the diverse culture of Narva and serve as a reminder of the never ending power of collective thinking.
