BIO//

Josefina Mellado is a visual artist from Chile, currently based in Santiago. She works primarily with installation and explores the relationship between painting and architecture.

In 2019, Chile experienced a series of intense riots and social upheaval, during which the feminist movement played a pivotal role. Since then, Josefina has been focusing on building spaces with a hyper-feminine approach and exploring concepts often overlooked in architecture due to their association with femininity, such as colour, decoration, and domesticity.

PROJECT//

During her residency at Nart, Josefina developed a project titled How to Make a Bomb, which explored the relationship between self-care and politics. This lecture-performance focused on raising awareness about tear gas miss use, while incorporating a bath bomb* making workshop.
As part of this project, she also organized a “Spa Day” for the public. This event, -held in the cellar bathroom-, featured a sauna experience complemented by face masks and bath bombs* crafted during the previous day’s workshop.

*A bath bomb is a cosmetic product designed to be used in a bathtub. It primarily consists of baking soda and citric acid, which react effervescently when they come into contact with water. Other ingredients, such as essential oils and herbs, are often added to provide fragrance and additional health benefits. Bath bombs are known for their relaxing effect.
