HOUSE RULES AND INFORMATION
2025

Welcome to Narva Art Residency! We’re thrilled to have you here. Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment. By staying here, you agree to follow these guidelines:

General Information

  • Visit the residents’ info page on our website for key details that artists-in-residence are expected to know.
  • Staff may occasionally request help with housekeeping, event prep, or welcoming guests.
  • Use the group chat for day-to-day communication.
  • Note that various activities, such as seminars, workshops, public events, and exhibition openings, take place at the residency. Check the calendar regularly for activities and schedules.
  • Weekly house meetings are mandatory and integral to the residency program.

Safety

  • Keep the main and cellar entrances locked at all times, except during scheduled events or gallery hours.
  • If you encounter unfamiliar visitors, politely inquire and notify staff.
  • Secure your valuables; NART is not responsible for theft or damage.
  • Familiarize yourself with exits, evacuation routes, and the fire alarm system. Learn how to reset the alarm in case of a false alarm.
  • Use candles only when present and never leave them unattended.
  • In emergencies, call 112 and inform staff immediately.

Cleaning

  • Treat NART like your home — cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
  • Kitchen:
    • Clean up immediately after cooking or eating.
    • Store food on designated shelves and dispose of expired or smelly items promptly.
    • Sort waste into bio, recyclable, and general bins outside.
    • Wipe down surfaces and clean around the sink after use.
    • Take out the trash when full and replace the bag.
  • No smoking indoors. If you smoke, do so outside and dispose of cigarette butts properly.
  • Return tools, materials, and equipment to their designated places. Report missing or damaged items to staff immediately.
  • Leave common areas tidy. For projects that have a messier nature, consult staff for suitable workspace options.
  • Conserve energy by turning off lights and appliances when leaving rooms. Ensure lights in common areas are off when not in use.
  • Before checkout:
    • Vacuum your room and clean your workspace.
    • Wash, dry, and fold your linens, returning them to the bedlinen cupboard.
    • Do not leave any food behind and make sure to empty the fridge of perishable items.
    • Leave a note in the guest book.
    • Return your key to staff or to the post box outside.

Facilities

  • Inform staff and the group chat if hosting overnight guests or pets.
  • Use the cinema hall for private screenings; ask staff for connection instructions.
  • Sauna is available once a week if there’s enough interest. Additional sessions incur a small fee.
  • Laundry facilities are in the basement; ask for assistance if needed.
  • There are three bikes available for the residents. Always lock them in public spaces and store them indoors overnight.
  • Reusable materials are on the large cellar shelf for creative use. Additional wood is available in nearby storage; ask staff for access.
