We invite everyone to participate in workshops by Zimbabwean artist Zacharaha Magasa on making sculptures from used car tyres!
In May there will be three workshops where Zacharaha teaches his own technique of making exciting, colourful sculptures with surprising textures and shapes from used car tyres. The workshops will take place on 5 May at 13.00, 18 May at 15.00 and 25 May at 15.00.
You’ve probably seen garden ornaments and swans made from tyres, but this is something different. Tyres can be cut, painted and designed to become real masterpieces. In June, there will be a pop-up exhibition at Kreenholm manufactory of the work produced by the participants. Afterwards, they will be able to take the sculptures into their own homes.
Registration is required: https://forms.gle/eLPYNJ8ou2jPM3jM6
The workshop is free of charge, but places are very limited! Be prepared for a physically demanding activity. Workshop involves painting so please dress accordingly. Participants between ages from 16 to 100 are welcome. Children can participate together with a parent.
Zacharaha Magasa was born in Zimbabwe, where his parents migrated from Mozambique and Malawi. He later went to live in South Africa when times were hard in his home country. Now back in Zimbabwe, his work is about intentional and involuntary movement. In recent years, old car tyres have been his main material, as they also tell stories of movement. His residency in Narva is his first time to move across the seas, fly in an aeroplane and experience snow! See Zacharaha’s work here: https://www.firstfloorgalleryharare.com/zacharaha-magasa.html
Zacharaha’s workshops are done with the support of the British Council P2P programme.
