The opening event of the sculpture called “Tuhast” in Narva is part of the satellite program of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2024 (TAB 2024). The piece is by Lithuanian architect and artist Augustas Lapinskas.
There will short speeches by:
– Augustas Lapinskas, architect and author of the sculpture
– Peeter Tambu, city architect of Narva
After the opening, Augustas invites all to participate in a small workshop. A special biological paint consisting of lichen spores will be applied to the surface of the newly opened sculpture. This paint helps the growth of lichens and mosses. But it is important to have a base material with the right properties.
Concrete made with ash has a very good surface for lichen growth because it has a low pH level, it is porous and retains moisture well. Together with the participants, we will cover the sculpture with moss paint and already next summer we will see how the lichens have grown. Organisms begin to live on the ash concrete arch, and they will grow and develop over time. The sculpture will become greener every year as it grows together with the city of Narva.
