Opening of the exhibition “SKIN DEEP” at the Tallinn Art Hall gallery

Opening of the exhibition “SKIN DEEP” at the Tallinn Art Hall gallery

We invite you to the exhibition at Tallinn Art Hall Gallery, featuring works by 17 artists from Ida-Virumaa. These artists live and work on Estonia’s border — not only geographically but also linguistically and culturally. The exhibition “Deep Skin” offers a perspective on how the biological boundary of the human body transforms into a symbol in art, telling stories that transcend linguistic and cultural barriers.

Paintings, sculptures, and installations reflect the thoughts and feelings of Ida-Virumaa artists, highlighting both their similarities and differences. Through their works, the artists strive to find a common language and build a bridge of mutual understanding. What do artists from different generations, backgrounds, and worldviews want to convey to their audience? Come and find out

The uniqueness of this exhibition lies in the remarkable diversity of its participants. The youngest artist is 19, while the oldest are over 70. Among the participants are anime enthusiasts, masters with classical art education, engineer-mothers, and young people dreaming of a career in the arts. Over three months, the artists worked together within the Ida-Viru Artists’ Club project. This exhibition is the result of their collective creativity and a testament to their efforts to overcome generational and professional differences.

The exhibition will open on 30 November at 17:00 at Tallinn Art Hall Gallery (Vabaduse Square 6) and will be on display until 15 December. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, 13:00–19:00.

Throughout the project, the artists were supported and guided by mentors Anita Kodanik, Anastasia Dratšova, Olesja Kachanovskaja-Münd, and Aleksei Gordin. The head of the Ida-Viru Artists’ Club is Darja Popolitova, an artist, lecturer, and PhD student at the Estonian Academy of Arts. The idea for the club was conceived by Johanna Rannula, head of the Narva Art Residency.

The activities of the club and the exhibition are supported by Tallinn Art Hall, the Estonian Academy of Arts, Narva Art Residency, and the British Council in Estonia.
