We invite you to the second meeting of NART ART-CLUB, where we will watch and discuss the first episode of John Berger’s iconic film The Art of Seeing.
This film changed the way we perceive visual culture and raised key questions about representation, the power of the gaze, and context in art.
Programme:
13:45 – 15:30 – Film screening and seminar discussion. Who controls the meaning of an artwork: the artist, the viewer, or institutions (museums, galleries, media)? What role does the distribution of images (reproductions, digital copies) play in understanding the meaning of art?
15:30 – 15:45 – Tea break
15:45 – 16:45 – Organisational meeting: Discussion on preparations for Artists’ Day: what expenses should be included in the budget? Moderator — Olga Tjurina. Brainstorming the content for the NART ART-CLUB meetings on 9th March and 12th April.
The seminar format suggests an active conversation, where everyone will have the chance to share their observations and thoughts.
The moderator is artist, teacher, and PhD student at the Estonian Academy of Arts Darja Popolitova.
Who are we waiting for? Anyone interested in art, visual culture, and critical thinking.
How to join? Write to d.popolitova@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting! The meeting will be conducted in Russian.
