Narva people will have a unique opportunity on 4 September to get acquainted with the MultiWeave technique. Kadi Pajupuu, inventor of the technique and professor, and artist Marilyn Piirsalu will be guiding teh workshop. The exhibition “The Variables”, currently open on the NART gallery, features the works of both artists. The exhibition also includes Marilyn Piirsalu’s large-scale works in the MultiWeave technique.
MultiWeave is a textile technique based on pulling a weft yarn around supported warp yarns. Technique is inspired by different traditional craft techniques (weaving, crochet) and the logic of 3D printers that build structures layer by layer.
The technique was initiated in the autumn of 2021, when the textile department of the Pallas University of Applied Sciences in Tartu initiated an international exhibition project called “Kasvatatud”. Participants in Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Sweden were sent tools and video instructions on how to weave spatial MultiWeave textiles. The works were exhibited at the Pallas Gallery in the spring of 2022.
