Australian artist Mark Wingrave is currently in residence at NART and has been preparing an installation called “A Poem between Columns”. This public art work is located at the Kreenholm Textile Factory and reuses the factory as a reading room. It consists of a 20 metre poem written by Estonian poet Larissa Joonas who is based in Kohtla-Järve. The poem is accompanied with translations into Estonian by Aare Pilv and English by Mark.
In taking a poem off the page and into physical space we walk through the poem to read it. Far from Kreenholm’s manufacturing history it imagines a present where life is transformed through art and translation.
After the walk to Kreenholm join us at NART for the opening of Mark’s week-long exhibition. It will be followed by a poetry reading by Larissa, Aare and Mark. The poems will be in Russian with English and Estonian translations.
