We invite you to the celebration of the 167th anniversary of Kreenholm and the opening of the exhibition “City within a City. History of Krenholm” on May 12 at 14.00 at the Narva Art Residency.
By the old calendar, on May 15 Kreenholm will turn 167. We will celebrate this birthday a little earlier – on Sunday, May 12. Come to have some cake and tea from the samovar! We will also have a workshop on paper collage with Finnish artist Kaisu Koivisto and a presentation of sculptures made from car tires by Zimbabwean artist Zacharaha Magasa.
The exhibition “City within a city. History of Krenholm” at the Narva Art Residency will tell the story of Krenholm through the models of Fyodor Shantsyn. The idea of creating a model of Krenholm came to Fyodor while working on the famous models of the old centre of Narva. The large amount of visual historical material was the reason why Fedor took on Krenholm. He started the Krenholm model back in 2017 with the Krenholm Hospital, built according to the design of the architect and artist Alexander Vladovsky in 1913. At the moment, Fyodor has created 45 buildings, large and small. In the future, he plans to make models of the factory buildings themselves. Thanks to these models, we can imagine what Kreenholm originally looked like 80 years ago.
